MPD: 14-year-old badly hurt in Warner Park stabbing, 16yo arrested
MADISON (WMTV) – An incident at a Madison middle school on Tuesday led to the stabbing of a 14-year-old boy by another teen on the city’s north side.
The boy was seriously injured in the attack and the first officers on scene took life-saving measures until EMTs could get there to rush him to the hospital, the Madison Police Dept. reported in an update. An earlier report on Wednesday indicated the boy was stabbed in the chest. The latest update noted he is expected to recover.
“This is just one of those situations where we have a 14-year-old victim who almost lost his life,” MPD PIO Stephanie Fryer said. “We have a, you know, 16 year old who is arrested, so its just kind of one of those really sad and unfortunate situations that happened in our community.”
The police department reports officers responded around 5:20 p.m. to a gas station in the 1000 block of N. Sherman Ave., near Warner Park, after learning of the attack. The confrontation that led to the stabbing happened at the park and could be traced back to the events at the middle school, the MPD report stated. It did not name the school where the initial incident occurred, nor did it say what happened.
The suspect was identified as a 16-year-old girl and she has been taken into custody, the report continued. It did not list the possible counts against her. Officers also located and seized the weapon used in the stabbing.
The investigation, which is being led by MPD’s Violent Crime Unit, is still active and the department pointed out there could be more charges in the incident.
While none of the three MPD reports indicated what occurred at the school that led to stabbing or when, Wednesday morning’s list of priority calls did identify a police response to a school on the city’s north side for a disturbance involving parents and students. Details of that incident were sparse, and the people involved had left by the time officers arrived.
