JANESVILLE, Wis. (WMTV) - A Janesville man died Friday in an early morning head-on collision involving a semi and an SUV along a Rock Co. highway.

According to the Rock Co. Sheriff’s Office, a 1997 GMC Jimmy was heading west on Hwy. 14, in the Town of Janesville, around 5 a.m. when the vehicle crossed into oncoming lanes near the N. Polzin Road intersection.

The SUV struck the eastbound tractor-trailer and caught fire, the Sheriff’s Office report continued. It was fully engulfed in flames by the time emergency responders arrived.

The Jimmy’s driver, whose name was not released, had been thrown from the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene. The semi’s driver was not hurt.

The crash had shut down the highway for more than three hours.
