MIDDLETON, Wis. (WMTV) - At least two people were injured late Thursday night when an ambulance collided with another vehicle at a Middleton intersection.

The crash occurred shortly after 11 p.m. near the intersection of University Ave. and Parmenter St. as the ambulance was transporting a patient to a Madison hospital. The collision sent the ambulance into a nearby BMO Bank on University Ave., damaging the building; while the other vehicle struck a traffic pole.

The two people in the other vehicle were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the Middleton Police Dept. reported. Three medical technicians were in the ambulance, as well as the patient at the time, according to Lodi Area EMS. All of them were checked out at the hospital, but authorities said they did not report any injuries.

The wreck closed the intersection for approximately 45 minutes, while crews worked the scene. Investigators did not indicate what caused the wreck and Middleton police note that it remains under investigation.

In its statement, Lodi Area EMS Chief Russ Schafer added a reminder for people to wear seat belts when driving and to pay attention when they see or hear an emergency vehicle coming.
